So we bring forward to September 10th, which is today, of 2021. Sorry, Scott was playing baseball. He loved to play sports and baseball, and he was on a co-ed recreational team. And his kids were with him. Their game finished and he was getting ready to pack up. The next team needed somebody to help stay and scorekeep, so Scott being Scott, thankfully he did, and he put the kids in the car and got them settled to wait till he was ready to go, and he helped scorekeep at the beginning of the game, the next game.

And while he was sitting on the bench, the reports from the people who helped him that day said he turned gray, he slumped over, and he fell on the ground, and he was unconscious Nobody could feel a heartbeat. Someone had to run, I, I don't know how far, but it looked very far when I saw the field. Kilometers, a kilometer, um, to get a defibrillator while they were doing CPR and calling 911. His children are in the car. They're watching this happen to their dad. So he is, um, successfully, um, revived and has free circulation, and the paramedics take him to, um, the Ottawa Heart Institute.

Where they found that he had very severe, severe myocarditis with a heart function of 10%. And he was admitted to the cardiac ICU. He was there for 7 days. He had to have a defibrillator pacemaker inserted. Um, and he, he did that during that hospital stay. Now, that kind of injuries and toxicity to biological tissue, there's permanent damage. And that permanent damage wasn't made any better by the defibrillator. So think about an electrical circuit.

The heart is an electrical unit, and that there's all these breaks from scar tissue that formed from the severe inflammation, myocarditis, of the muscle tissue. That's the difference between pericarditis and myocarditis. Pericarditis is from the outer lining of the heart. Myocarditis is the heart muscle itself and the infiltration that happens in that muscle and the electrical conductivity that has to try to pass through there.

Well, they're important because to understand what Scott went through afterwards, you do need to understand the extensive damage that occurred and how that occurred and why he suffered the way he did after. So after he got home, he had, um, a boatload of new medications that he would— had never been on. And he had to rebuild his capacity to be able to do daily functions and things like that and care for his children.
