First Dose Syncope and Ignored Myocarditis Warning

Day 3 · 1:57:59 · Dean Allison · Carole Avoine · Dr. Crystal Luchkiw

  • 💉 Employment pressure led Scott to a first dose in spring 2021 despite sibling safety talks; four weeks later he blacked out cooking.
  • ❤️ Crystal urged cardiac ultrasound for possible myocarditis; ER called it “highly unlikely,” did only ECG/bloodwork, and sent him home.
  • 📋 A 2019 echo had been completely normal, proving prior healthy heart function.

Early cardiac red flags dismissed as unrelated to vaccine.

Um, so can you just jump into that and share that with—.

Carole Avoine · 1:58:03

Sure. Um, as I do that Everyone listening, I'd just like you to imagine that you have some lenses, like my glasses here, that you can put on and imagine what it would be like to experience from Scott's perspective, from the lenses of how that this would all feel and what it would be like, and also from his children's perspective. Because they were present for some horrific things that happened. So Scott, as he was a parliamentary aide, so he— we had lots of discussions and he needed to get the vaccine to maintain his employment. And he—.

Dean Allison · 1:58:53

Can I just interject? So, um, you and him had discussions. You're a medical doctor.

Carole Avoine · 1:58:59

I am a medical doctor. I'm a family doctor.

Dean Allison · 1:59:02

Family physician, hospitalist, palliative care. You're a medical doctor. And so you're saying you're having discussions with him?

Carole Avoine · 1:59:09

Yes.

Dean Allison · 1:59:09

That's from the perspective of a sister who has his best interest in heart. But you also have the background as being a medical doctor.

Carole Avoine · 1:59:17

100%. Okay.

Dr. Crystal Luchkiw · 1:59:19

Yes.

Carole Avoine · 1:59:21

So this is, um, He gets his first vaccine after we've had discussions about— there were already safety concerns, and he got his first vaccine in April or May of 2021, and approximately 4 weeks later, he called me and he had had a syncopal episode, which means he passed out, completely passed out unconscious at home while he was cooking in his kitchen. And his stove, um, his oven glass broke, and he did not know how long he was unconscious for. He had nothing leading up to it, no signs that something was going to happen, just lights out.

Carole Avoine · 2:00:21

And he hit the floor and he had some injuries. He called me and I told him that he needed to call 911 because a true syncopal episode in a young, healthy person, active like he was, is cardiac until proven otherwise. And so he did. And I asked him, because Again, safety signals were already emerging in the scientific literature related to myocarditis. I asked him to make sure that they would check either a bedside ultrasound of his heart or an echocardiogram to have a look and make sure that there is no myocarditis or pericarditis present. When he got to the hospital, um, They did some blood work and an ECG, and they did not— they, they would not have a look because it was highly unlikely. That was the term that was used a lot, and he heard it over and over again, that it was highly unlikely to be related to the vaccine.

Carole Avoine · 2:01:29

So he was sent home, referred to an outpatient cardiologist, and About 6 weeks later, he had that appointment and they did do an echocardiogram. He hadn't got the results yet and he asked the cardiologist, because we had obviously been having many conversations, he asked the cardiologist, um, if he was safe to get the second injection. And we've heard from Deanna McLeod, how the toxicity increases with dose, each dose. And so the cardiologist told him it was highly unlikely to be related and he's safe to get the vaccine. So he got his second dose 2 weeks after his cardiologist appointment. And we did find out, um, after the fact that there was evidence of significant impairment in his heart function on his echocardiogram, but we didn't find that out until after.

Dean Allison · 2:02:39

Can I just interrupt you? Because yeah, we actually know he had a healthy heart before that first shot. And can you share with us how we know this is a fact?

Carole Avoine · 2:02:47

Yeah, in 2019, Scott was going through some um, difficult life circumstances and things. And he had some heart palpitations and went to the hospital. He had an echocardiogram, uh, then because he— they wanted to make sure everything was okay. And, uh, it was completely normal with a very good functioning heart with normal anatomy, um, and no damage. And it turned out to be just anxiety and stress related from his life circumstances that he was going through at that time.
